In an effort to maintain responsible reporting on suicide, as well as produce an informed and well-balanced documentary film, we have put together an advisory board to help us oversee the project as we continue through production and post-production.
Dr. Carrie Jurney
Dr. Jurney is originally from Atlanta, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. After vet school she completed an internship at the VCA Specialty Center of Seattle and her neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. She was awarded her neurology diplomate in 2009 and her Advanced Neurosurgery Certificate in 2011. She is currently the President of Not One More Vet, the largest wellness focused charity for veterinarians in the world.
Dr. Tracy Witte
Dr. Witte received her B.S. in psychology from The Ohio State University in 2004 and her M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Florida State University in 2006 and 2010, respectively. She completed a clinical psychology pre-doctoral internship at the Brown University Training Consortium, Brown Medical School in 2010. Currently, she is a professor of psychology and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Alabama. Dr. Witte’s research is broadly concerned with understanding and preventing suicidal behavior.
Dr. Elizabeth Strand
Dr. Elizabeth Strand is the Founding Director of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a licensed clinical social worker, experienced family therapist, Grief Recovery Specialist, and a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher. She has been working in the field of social work for 20 years. Her professional mission is to encourage the humane treatment of both people and animals and to care for those professionals who care for animals.
Dr. A. Zachary Ward
Dr. Ward provides individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy services for adults and adolescents in the greater Sacramento area. He is currently the Coordinator for Mental Health and Wellness Programs at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ward counsels veterinary students on mental health and wellbeing as they make their way through the program and eventually embark on careers in veterinary medicine. He is a licensed psychologist with a PhD from Texas Tech University.

Dr. Marty Becker
Dr. Becker, “America’s Veterinarian,” is the founder of Fear Free, which works to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them. He has written 23 books that have sold almost 8 million copies, including three New York Times best-sellers. Dr. Becker was the resident veterinary contributor on “Good Morning America” for 17 years. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of American humane as well as its Chief Veterinary Correspondent, a founding member of Core Team Oz for "The Dr. Oz Show," and a member of the Dr. Oz Medical Advisory Panel.
Dr. Bob Murtaugh
Dr. Murtaugh is the Chief Professional Relations Officer for Thrive Pet Healthcare. He is a board-certified veterinary emergency and critical care specialist and a board-certified specialist in veterinary internal medicine. He has been a veterinary specialist, educator, and consultant for over three decades. Dr. Murtaugh is a pioneer in specialty veterinary medicine and paved the way for emergency and critical care to become an American Veterinary Medical Association–recognized specialty in 1989.
Dr. Jim Clark
Dr. Jim Clark is an animal lover, entrepreneur, multi-practice owner, clinician, and educator. After working in general and emergency practice for more than 20 years, earning an MBA, and serving as an owner in four ER/Spec practices, Clark joined the faculty of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2010, assuming leadership of their Professional Skills curriculum. He currently provides instruction in communication, mental health, career planning, DEI, and business management skills. Clark is also a Co-Founder of the educational consulting firm Pet Practice Partners, which is dedicated to providing impactful and cost-effective evidence-based learning for the veterinary profession.
